President's Challenge Quilt
2027 Quilts of Valor Challenge Begins
Our theme for 2026–27 is: TOGETHER WE ARE STARS!
Guild President Connie Jo Carstens has chosen a very special project for the 2027 President's Challenge: Quilts of Valor.
HAAQG members are challenged to create a quilt using red, white/neutral, and blue, with one additional design requirement:
Every quilt must include a star—or stars.
The stars can be traditional or modern. One dramatic star or dozens of them. Simple or intricate. Familiar blocks or something unexpected. That's part of what makes quilting so interesting: give a room full of quilters the same challenge, and you'll rarely get the same quilt twice.
What makes this challenge different?
The quilts must meet the President's Challenge requirements, which coordinate with Quilts of Valor guidelines:
And there is one particularly important choice left entirely to each maker:
You do NOT have to give your President's Challenge quilt away.
Members who voluntarily choose to present their quilt to a veteran may obtain the specific Quilts of Valor label from our Guild President. Whether a quilt ultimately becomes an award for a veteran is strictly the maker's choice.
