Our first big request has been for quilts for “Children Without Beds”. The real title is BED BLITZ, sponsored by Tool Library which is part of West Bloomington Revitalization Project to serve children in all of the Bloomington-Normal area. 80 children have been selected to receive a kit consisting of bed frame, mattress, quilt, fleece blanket, sheets, pillow, health supplies and a Teddy Bear this year.
HAAQG will be collecting finished twin size quilts, 70”x90” at the September 7th meeting. The Lexington small group, SEW & TELL, have been working on a large number of quilts over the summer for this project. Hopefully, there will be many more additional ones. We will try to have a show-n-tell all at one time during the meeting, to display the awesome quilt gifts that so many of you have provided. If you have more quilts that are not finished by the September meeting, we will take those at the October 5th meeting, for distribution date of October 14th. Nancy Stone is the head of this project and said it will be on-going for next year, (so you can plan ahead).
Cards will also be available for the makers of the quilts, to wish these children many comforting thoughts.
Donors of quilts, please register your name and number of quilts at the Community Projects table, so we will have a better record of how many quilts were received. We would like to thank all the persons who have responded to this project so generously with their time and talents to make it a success for some children of the community.
In October, our project will again be Fidgit Quilts. Several facilities have already called with request for more. Additional suggestions will be in the next newsletter and at the Community Projects table.
