Quilt Spectrum

3/23/2018

Thank you for the quilts you entered in the show. It will be another wonderful display of talent from our guild.  Show Dates: Friday, April 13, 9-6 and Saturday April 14, 9-4.            You can still bring items for the Unique Boutique and fat quarters for door prizes to the April meeting. Keep those boutique items coming.

VOLUNTEER SIGNUP: Sign ups to help with the set up and running of the show are coming in, but we need more people in several places. Go to the HAAQG website, click volunteer, and scroll down to Volunteer for Spectrum Show and choose all the places where you can serve. Then provide your name and email address at the end to complete your sign up. We need people at various times during all four days. In particular we need help with set up on Wednesday evening, hanging quilts on Thursday morning, and take down on Saturday night. We also need people to sign out quilts to their owners. PLEASE volunteer. The friendly faces of our guild members help to make the show a success.

PROP SIGN UP: Go to the same place and find Volunteer to Bring Props and find out what is still needed. Sign up the same way. The props are an important part of the show.

Thanks to all the people who have been working on all the facets of what makes up a show. It would not be possible without you.

Registration Form-doc

We enjoyed having Piece ‘O Cake’s Becky Goldsmith lecture to us about color in March and especially enjoyed hearing all her tips about quilting in general at her classes. If you took her class, please bring your projects for April’s show and tell!
In April we’re really looking forward to having Suzi Parron with us. She’s going to tell us all about barn quilts and then we’ll have two sessions where we’ll paint our own mini barn quilts. Both sessions are full but let Linda Click know if you want to be put on a wait list.
Our speakers receive a welcome bag when they arrive here. Beer Nuts and The Olive Bin generously donate goodies for them and we encourage you to shop at these stores in Bloomington/Normal.

Please make sure you have renewed your guild membership dues before registering for classes.   The membership form can be found on the HAAQG web site with Pam Riss's contact information for mailing your form & payment.  Per the guild’s guidelines, there must be a 60-day notice on cancellations in order to receive a refund for workshops.

Here's the last month for this guild year.  Photos of the workshop are on the registration form that's included in this newsletter.

April 2018 President's Letter

3/21/2018

Seaming together friendships—one stitch at a time!

Happy Spring!!!  Hopefully the flowers will  be blooming soon and the temperatures will be warming up!  This year has been a good year for the quilt guild and we have had a lot of great speakers.  Everyone seems to be learning new skills as they participate in classes and mentoring. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching the reversible tote bag in mentoring.

This month we are painting barn quilts.  What fun that shall be. As this year winds down the new officers you elected are preparing to take on new challenges.  I want to thank each of them for stepping up and volunteering to help out. Elected at the last meeting was: Gerry Schrock, President; Connie Borth, Vice President; Karen Henry, Secretary and Mary Schoneman, Treasurer.  Please continue to support them as you have supported this year’s board.

Looking ahead in May we will have our Salad Supper.  June 23-24 will be our retreat here at the church. Registration form is part of this newsletter and will be available at the programs table at the meeting.  Also we are asking you to sign up for the summer sewing days on July 21 and August 18. The fee for the sewing days is only $5 to help cover the cost of renting the facility.  These two days we will have bottled water available, but you are on your own for lunch. Please sign up if you know you are coming as it helps us know how many people to set up for.

Let’s again fill the shopping cart in the entry way of the church.  We are a very caring and giving group and I am proud to be a part of it!  See you at the meeting!

Carolyn Gatenby, President

Community Projects

3/20/2018

Thanks again for all the generous donations to all of our guild Community Projects efforts all this year. The response has been grand, great and glorious. Please remember that our committee doesn't always know names but we want to be able to thank each of you -so please help us by signing in each time you come in and give us your donations.  We have books available for you to do this with us at the table at each meeting.

Donations for the pillowcase project netted 14 more and all of the pillowcase kits went out from the table.  We will continue to cut and have a number of these available at each meeting for you. Not sure how to sew them, ask one of us as we also have a nifty pattern to hand you to help.

LaDonna Marshal picked up our baby quilts donated and able to send all 50 gathered up until last meeting with 25 going to St Joseph Hospital and 25 to Bromenn Hospital. Way to go ladies!!!!  I believe that LaDonna also shared with me that she was able to aldo distribute 14 cancer quilts. another YAY!!!!

We did receive 1 quilt looking forward to the next years BED BLITZ and will make sure that Nancy Stone receives it and any others donated until then. Also don't forget her request for the Bold, Bright and Happy colors to dazzle the new little ones who will receive them.

Last of all, We received one quilted/in pillowcase and one finished top for the Quilt of Valor efforts. These have already been delivered to the Leroy QOV coordinator with one scheduled presentation arranged for giving.

Again thanks for all the wonderful donations-looking forward to any and all at this months meeting.  We have had several continued requests for more Figet Quilts so if that is your love to do-bring em on down.

If you have any questions contact Carol Lou Eisenhardt.

Raffle Quilt 2018

3/16/2018

Thank you to everyone who turned in raffle tickets at the March meeting.  Karen Dodd was the winner of March’s incentive prize.  Karen selected the beautiful orange and green applique block as her prize.

There’s one monthly incentive prize remaining.   The raffle quilt committee is sweetening the deal for this final prize - pictured here.   The small table topper is 16.5” x 10.5” with a pottery bunny and a milk bottle vase with coordinating blooms.  A bunny in the blooms, you might say.

To have a chance at winning this adorable prize, bring your sold tickets or a donation to the raffle quilt table at the April meeting where you can see the raffle quilt and the incentive prize in person.  Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5, or a packet of 24 for $20.  The winner of the raffle quilt will be drawn at the quilt show on April 14, 2018.  The final two incentive prizes – “Sold the Winning Ticket” and “Sold the Most Tickets” will also be given away at the quilt show.

If you prefer not to participate in the raffle, you can still support the guild and have a chance to win the incentive prize.  Just make a donation at the Raffle Quilt table and receive “special” tickets which you can use to enter the monthly drawing.  These “special” tickets are available for the same price as the raffle tickets.

Tickets must be turned in before the beginning of the April business meeting to be entered in the drawing for the remaining monthly incentive prize.  (Remember to put your name on the back of each ticket you sell to be eligible for the incentive prize drawing.)

NOTE:  If you have unsold tickets, please return them at the April meeting (or at the quilt show).  We can use them at the quilt show.  Thank you!

Last Call for Quilts

3/8/2018

Hey, Everyone, let me remind you that you have until March 17 to get your Spectrum Quilt Show entry forms in. We already have a good number, but we want to be sure visitors see the whole range of what we have done. We need all kinds of entries from the simplest and easiest to follow to the most complex. Guests and members new to quilting (like myself) want to see things they feel they can do as they are starting out, and long-time quilters want to look for new challenges. So, get your entry forms in. The form is available on the HAAQG website. Download it and email it, snail mail it, or bring it by. My information is on the bottom of the entry form.

SNOW BIRDS: If you got caught in the change of the due date for your entries and want to enter your quilt, please email the information to me (rataha2@hotmail.com) so we can save a place for your entries. Then finish the process when you get home. Even if you do not have every detail, tell me approximately how large your quilt is, what category it is in, how much it is worth, who made it, who owns it, who quilted it, and what the dominant color is. Then you can do your final measuring when you get home, write up the story, and send in a picture of the quilt. I know some of you thought you would have time when you got back. Our layout meeting is March 18, so the information must get here by March 17.
Looking forward to seeing your entries.
