Hello quilters! Spring is just ahead and I, for one, cannot hardly wait to greet it. I'm ready to put on my traveling shoes. Would you be interested in going to two exciting locations this summer? Here is the plan ... There are two adventures in the planning stages. One to The Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, IN the weekend of June 1, 2019. I need your input to decide if we should leave on Friday evening, stay over or make it a one trip! Prices and more detail will be available at our March meeting.
Also, many have asked if we can arrange a trip to Angela Walters' store, Quilting Is My Therapy. The tentative plan is to visit in July around the 19 - 20 weekend, in Liberty, Mo. The Midnight Quilter (Angela) says, that Liberty is only 40 minutes from Hamilton, Mo home of Jenny Doan's Missouri Start Quilt Company. Why not visit both? I am trying to confirm that Angela will be there that weekend. More information is being put together for your review. Let's go. All helpful suggestions welcome! Volunteer's also encouraged. Celeste Talley At the March meeting, please donate copies of the AQS Magazine to be used in the guild display at the Bloomington Public Library during April. These magazines will be given free to anyone and are a part of our effort to promote quilting. The display will be in the adult section on the second floor of the library. Bring your donations to Judy Bennington at the library table.
Judy Bennington We want your fabric scraps! The March meeting is the final collection date for quilt scraps for the mystery bags for the 2019 Quilt Spectrum. Fabric scraps need to be quality cotton and no smaller than 2 inches. You may put your scraps on the counter outside the kitchen.
Ary Anderson This year’s Relief Sale will be held March 15th & 16th at the Interstate Center. If you would like to donate a wall hanging or quilt for the auction – or an item for the bazaar – please contact Mary Sanko for details. The committee is requesting a picture of all quilted items donated to the auction.
Please bring your donation to the March meeting. She will make sure it gets to the sale and will obtain a tax receipt for you. Our guild is large and has many wonderful groups from which to choose. Whether you are a new member or have been in the guild for many years, you are welcome to come to the mentor class and meet quilters who enjoy quilting and learning new skills just like you.
We received 10 Cancer/Nursing Home Comfort Quilts, 2 Baby quilts, 1 fidgit quilt and 5 pillow cases, this last meeting. The third Saturday in March is National Quilt Day. Any Baby Quilts received at our meeting in March will be given to the hospitals by Ladonna Marshall our ‘go to person’ for this area. They should be approximately 40” X 40” to 60”. Thank you for all your work to give to these needs.
We have numerous KITS for Nursing Home/Cancer Comfort Quilts waiting to be sewn. Also there are some pillow case KITS. And several KITS for ‘Children without Beds’, twin size, for those who want to plan ahead for the project coming up next fall. Some persons have asked that we extend our participation in this project at least one more year. Nancy Stone will continue to be the ‘go to person’ for this project. Fidgit quilts are always needed. We hope to have several samples at the table if you have any questions about them and want to see what they look like. Thank you for all your kind stitches to make it possible to give to all these different projects. Cathie Lockwood & Carol Lou Eisenhardt What have you been reading?? Fiction? Quilting books? Knitting? Other craft books? I have a new book, Quilted Purses & Totes from Annie's that includes patterns for "10 classy bags for all your needs". Yes, I bought it for one specific purse but the book is so pretty to browse while I'm snuggled at home. And no, I don't need another bag or book.
Please remember don't bring books or magazines or patterns to donate to the HAAQG Library unless you have contacted Mary Weakman or Linda Edwards. Storage space is limited to our one cart and nothing can be stored on top of the cart. If you have any book suggestions, please let Connie J Carstens, Mary Weakman or Linda Edwards know. Thank you, Connie J Carstens Our guild is large and has many wonderful groups from which to choose. Whether you are a new member or have been in the guild for many years, you are welcome to come to the mentor class and meet quilters who enjoy quilting and learning new skills just like you.
March 21, 2019 and April 18, 2019 Cheryl Adam will be teaching us how to make the Large Retreat Bag. This fantastic bag is easy to make and holds a lot of goodies! The frame on this bag creates an opening that stays open no matter what, making it both handy and professional looking. This class is full but we are taking a wait list so if someone can’t come we can add you. If you have any mentoring classes you would like us to do, please stop by and let us know. Come join us for a fun night out quilting with friends. Kay Bowen, Deanna & Richard Bilyeu The 2019 Guild May Salad Supper will be held on Thursday May 9, 2019.
