October President's Letter
Seaming together friendships one stitch at a time!
Wow! What a start we had with our September meeting. Gyleen Fitzgerald was a dynamic speaker and entertained everyone. That was the first time I had heard so much laughter at a meeting. Of course, this followed Pastor Tim speaking to the group and blessing the quilts. Show N Tell was a great success as 56 quilts were shown and donated to the Beds for Kids. Nancy Stone and committee were very impressed with our generosity. We will be collecting the last of the quilts for this year’s program at our October meeting.
I want to thank two local businesses for helping us with our welcome bags that programs give to our speakers. Our own Georgia Dawson and Beer Nuts have been providing small bags of nuts for our speakers for over a year. She even donated goodies to our vendors at last spring’s quilt show. This year The Olive Bin (located on College Ave. next the Wild Bird’s store and right across the street from the Sewing Studio) has joined in providing items for the bags for speakers. Let us support these merchants and thank them by giving them some business. Olive Bin has said that if you stop in and mention seeing this in our newsletter they will give you a free mini bottle of olive oil, valued at $6.99.
Programs have informed me that registrations for classes has picked up and classes are filling up. Be sure to get signed up soon so you don’t miss out. This month Pat Sloan will be joining us. Please be sure to come and learn from her.
Quilt Show 2018 board has met and is still in need of some help. We need someone to work with Ruth Taha and learn the behind the scenes workings of putting on a quilt shop so that in 2019 they can chair the committee. Help is needed for set up and take down, ballot counting and to set up display in Bloomington Public Library in March so let Ruth know if you are willing to help.
Thank you to all who donated to the church's shopping cart with a non-perishable item. Let us continue to fill that cart each month!! I look forward to seeing all of you at the October meeting!!

Raffle Quilt 2018
The raffle quilt, “Bunny in the Blooms,” was unveiled at the September guild meeting. The quilt is 94” square. It was pieced by Evelyn Young and Sherrie Snyder and quilted by Ruth Pfaffmann. The applique blocks are from a pattern by Edyta Sitar. If you weren’t at the September meeting, you can find a picture of the quilt on the guild website.
We will begin selling raffle tickets at the November meeting. (Tickets will be $1 each, 6 for $5, or a packet of 24 for $20.) We will also begin giving away monthly incentive prizes in November. So, how do you earn a chance to win an incentive prize? Put your name on the back of each ticket you sell. Each ticket turned in for a given month is an entry in a drawing. Here’s the fun part…If you win, you get to select which incentive prize you want. To be entered in the November drawing, you must purchase tickets that evening and turn them in by the end of the break. If your ticket is selected, you will have first choice of the six monthly incentive prizes. The December winner will get to choose from the five remaining prizes and so forth until the final prize is awarded in April.
We will also have special prizes for selling the most tickets and for selling the winning ticket. (These prizes will be revealed later.) Please stop by the Raffle Quilt table at the October meeting to see the raffle quilt and to view all six monthly incentive prizes.
