These are the instructions for the block. Members may make any number of blocks, either with personal stash fabric or by picking up bags of fabric from Vice-President, Connie Jo Carstens. If picking up a bag, there will be enough for four 4.5" blocks. Each block uses six 2.5" squares - three light and three medium/dark squares. Use the same light and medium/dark fabric for each StarQuar. Please don't mix light and dark fabrics; see examples above. Sewing the Block 1. On the wrong side of two light squares, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner. 2. Pair each marked up light square with a medium/dark square, right sides together. 3. Sew on the drawn line, and trim with a 1/4" seam allowance. Press to the dark side. 4. Using the Step 4 diagram, layout the squares to form the block. Sew one HST to one square. Press away from the HST. 5. Nesting the seams, sew two halves together. DO NOT PRESS (if you are new to nesting seams, see tutorial to the right) |
